Resurrecting Summer in Amsterdam

Creative Amsterdam

Summer is cranking up a notch or two, with businesses finding ever more creative ways to offer you their best while respecting the rules. Everyone is playing their part and we’re steadily resurrecting summer in Amsterdam. This week we’ve got live Jazz, a socially distanced market, and free outdoor exercise classes.

Have a look at what’s on, and try something new this week!

Online or offline, we’re here for you.

Free Writing Workshop

In a dusty forgotten drawer? Or some long lost corner of your brain? Perhaps a faraway landfill. Wherever your grand writing projects ended up, now is the time to resurrect them, and Janice is here to help.

In this workshop, you’ll move through a series of exercises to help inspire creativity and teach the skills to get things down on paper.

Experienced or not, writer or just interested, feel welcome.

Free Yoga Session

For the frugal, the stingy, and the discerning – and those who like to              s  t  r  e  t  c  h. This bi-weekly yoga session is perfect for you. It’s hosted by Puck, an experienced yoga and martial arts instructor. He works on a donation basis for the sessions but you are more than welcome to just come and try it out.

It lasts for 1 hour, and consists of a short meditation, followed by bends twists, and inversions. Beginners and experienced warmly welcome.

Second Hand Clothes Market

It’s been a bit of an adjustment: in the last few months without any need to get dressed below the waist, we’re suddenly facing the prospect of other people seeing us. Break yourself back into the swing of fashion easily, and see what’s on offer at this beautiful second hand market. Only 30 people allowed in at once, so get there early to avoid queues and take your pick of the crop.

Jazz at the Plantage

If you’re still struggling with human contact, why not opt for the far less complicated company of plants? No need to even speak to each other, just enjoy some good quality time in the (hopefully) sun, and let some live jazz waft over you.

The Jazz concert itself is free, but you’ll need to pay for entry into Hortus Botanicus, so it’s worth allowing yourself some time for a wander around the beautiful gardens.

Free Outdoor Bootcamp

Introducing Smug Sundays – where you spend one hour with a pounding heart and sweaty forehead, and get to walk around for the rest of the day with annoying grin on your face for all those who stayed in bed eating dusty pringles.

Puck’s Sunday outdoor bootcamp in Flevopark has you covered on all bases: a short sharp shock for an hour, in a relaxed non-macho atmosphere.

Mindfulness, Truth & Nature of Mind

If you haven’t yet sampled the peace that meditation can bring to your life, Mindiverse’s bi-weekly session offers an opportunity to learn and begin to incorporate it into your day. It’s particularly of interest to those who want to go deeper and understand how mindfulness is situated within philosophy and neuroscience.

All welcome.
