200 events in Amsterdam!

We’re celebrating! It’s July, it’s sunny, and we’ve just reached the mark of 200 Authentic Days events! What a journey it has been… Everything from bouldering to sketching, pot lucks to escape rooms, dinners, parties, drinking, dancing, museums, photography, dogs and poetry… The list goes on.

But what has turned it from special to unique is all of you. Whether to one hangout or to many, every single person who has come along has enriched our community with time, conversation, and fun. We are proud to have encouraged these opportunities to hang out and have these experiences together. Thank you all.

We’ve got the weekly lineup of hangouts and other events here. So if you’re looking for some inspiration, here’s some of the best July events in Amsterdam just for you.

Open air stories @ Westergas

Under the stars and against the backdrop of Westergas, an evening of stories, sounds an images unfolds. Tonight, Spanish Photographer Jordi Ruiz will transport you from Westerpark to the soy fields of Argentina and Paraguay, and tell the story of aggressive monoculture and its spiralling impact on farmers and locals.

It’s free to join, and you’re welcome on your own turf or under the canopy, so bring along a sweater and something to drink and prepare for a journey.

Free Yoga Class

Who knew humans could look like that? If you want to find out how and are also frugal, stingy, and discerning then this bi-weekly yoga session is perfect for you. It’s hosted by Puck, an experienced yoga and martial arts instructor. He works on a donation basis for the sessions but you are more than welcome to just come and try it out.

It lasts for 1 hour, and consists of a short meditation, followed by bends twists, and inversions. Beginners and experienced warmly welcome.

Houseplant Yard Sale

Thinking of having kids? Want a dog but the landlord won’t let you? Have you considered buying a houseplant instead? They’re basically the same, but make far less noise, require neither schools nor training, and won’t piss all over your Persian rug.

This Saturday’s houseplant sale offers specimens big and small from only €3. In fact, they even have some lonely ones who are struggling to grow and need a little extra love from a new parent, which are being given away for free. Share the love and oxygenate your living room.

Get down there early to avoid queues as there’s only 30 people allowed in at one time.

Live Music @ De Roze Tanker

Live music! Not a live stream, but actual, in-person music before your eyes (and ears). The Lowland Suffering are playing at De Tanker in Noord (an etherial pinkly lit gas station type thing by a railway) in the golden hours of Saturday evening. Their subtle blend of Irish and American folk will slide you to the start line of your Saturday night. Not to be missed.

Free Outdoor Bootcamp

Introducing Smug Sundays – where you spend one hour with a pounding heart and sweaty forehead, and get to walk around for the rest of the day with annoying grin on your face for all those who stayed in bed eating dusty pringles.

Puck’s Sunday outdoor bootcamp in Flevopark has you covered on all bases: a short sharp shock for an hour, in a relaxed non-macho atmosphere.

Mindfulness, Truth & Nature of Mind

If you haven’t yet sampled the peace that meditation can bring to your life, Mindiverse’s bi-weekly session offers an opportunity to learn and begin to incorporate it into your day. It’s particularly of interest to those who want to go deeper and understand how mindfulness is situated within philosophy and neuroscience.

All welcome.
